Kristy McLean says she was “very honoured” to receive a Youth Leadership Award from Windsor’s mayor during a riverfront celebration of the 121st anniversary of the city’s founding, May 20.

“I am very appreciative to be recognized for contributing to the quality of life and standard of living of our community,” says McLean, just finished her third year of studies at the Odette School of Business and just beginning a term as president of its Enactus chapter.

The student group works to promote sustainable entrepreneurship through local projects. McLean was named a Woman Leader of Tomorrow during its regional conference in March.

The Youth Leadership Award, conferred by the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee, recognizes young Windsorites dedicated to community involvement, volunteerism and civic engagement. Co-chair Jonathon Liedtke called McLean “well-deserving” of the award.

“The breadth of applications received this year was overwhelming,” he said. “The high calibre of the nominees is indicative of the many contributions our youth are making to the life of our city.”

Besides McLean, two high school students won recognition: Nick Tonial of St. Anne’s and Rachel Easterbrook of Massey.
