Maher El-Masri, associate professor and research leadership chair in the Faculty of Nursing, has won recognition from the provincial association of the profession.

The Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario conferred its Award for Leadership in Nursing Research on Dr. El-Masri during its annual general meeting, April 27 in Toronto.

Nominators cited his work to create a summer institute of clinical health research for graduate students and health-care professionals, a biennial nursing research conference, and forums for students and faculty share their ideas, including a research club.

The association called El-Masri “well recognized for experience in clinical research design and data analysis” and noted his impressive track record of grants funding as the author of 42 peer-reviewed articles and significant media coverage of his research findings,

“He is constantly looking for ways to engage clinicians from the local healthcare community to work with members of the faculty to find research answers for meaningful clinical problems,” said his award citation.

Dean of nursing Linda Patrick praised E-Masri as a worthy recipient of this honour.

“Despite his busy schedule, Maher lends his expertise to colleagues, students and the community,” she said. “He readily takes time to provide research methodology assistance to colleagues and is sought out as a mentor to graduate students.”
