Lancer women earn basketball silver

The Lancer women’s basketball team fell to the Ottawa Gee-Gees 89-40 in the Ontario University Athletics championship game Saturday in Ottawa.

Windsor’s quest to retain the national title is not ended, though. The squad can win a trip to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship tournament at the east regional qualifier this weekend. The Lancers will take on the Cape Breton Capers to open the tournament Friday in Ottawa.

The Lancers reached the OUA gold medal game by beating the Carleton Ravens 76-56 on Friday.

Men’s hockey team iced in Western conference final

The Lancer men’s hockey team fell 2-0 to the Western Mustangs in the third game of their conference title series Sunday.

Windsor had taken the first game of the best-of-three series, 4-3 Wednesday in London. Western forced the decider with a 5-2 win Friday at Windsor Arena.

The Lancers still have a chance to qualify for the national championship tournament and will play the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in a game to determine a wild-card berth.
