The 16th annual Windsor Canadian Music Festival, a collaboration between the University of Windsor School of Music and Windsor Symphony Orchestra, starts today, as artistic advisor Brent Lee provides an overview at 4 p.m. in the Music Building’s Recital Hall.
This year’s festival explores works for chamber orchestra and interactive electronics. Performances range from a jam session at Phog Lounge to a student improvisation combining acoustic and electronic instruments with live audio and video mixing in Lambton Tower’s Studio A, to concerts in more traditional venues like Assumption University Chapel.
The Windsor Symphony Orchestra will premiere commissioned works by David Eagle, Keith Hamel, Jim Harley and Brent Lee on Friday evening. On Saturday, faculty members from the School of Music will perform recent compositions by those four as well as Patrick Carrabré and Christien Ledroit.
