Centre for Engineering Innovation opening its doors to the community

As part of the University’s Fall Open House, members of the public are invited to tour the Centre for Engineering Innovation from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, November 4.

Tours highlights include:

  • A presentation on the Intelligent Manufacturing System technology that will be featured in the CEI. The IDesign Studio and IFactory will allow students and researchers to design new product ideas, configure the manufacturing systems required to make them, and have them assembled under one roof.
  • Student projects which include wind turbines; aerogliders; a bionic hand that responds to variations in muscle tensions in the wrist to replace a human limb; an autonomous robot vehicle that can navigate an obstacle course without human intervention; a repurposed 1985 Porsche featuring collision avoidance sensors, a regenerative breaking system and a battery management system that determines temperature and power output; and SAE Baja and Formula vehicles.
  • The bioprocessing lab, where biofuels are produced from low value agricultural products, fuel cells produce electricity powered by microbes, and nanofibres are used to remove pollutants from drinking water.
