The cultural diversity of its campus community is what makes the University of Windsor unique, says Josh Paglione.
Director of student life for the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance, he has issued a call for participation in a week of activities to celebrate that diversity. Viva Cultural Diversity Week is scheduled for November 14 to 18, during International Education Week.
“UWSA advocates for students and we are representing a very diverse group,” Paglione says. “We want to engage students in this week, build some excitement on campus.”
He invites students to submit ideas for entertainment, speakers or creative activities to promote cross-cultural understanding, acceptance and respect. Already, groups have proposed music and dance performances, film screenings, craft sessions, and interfaith prayer. The Thirsty Scholar Pub plans to offer ethnic food specials during the week.
Paglione comes by his interest in cultural naturally.
“I grew up in a very Italian family in Leamington,” he says. “Every year, we made our own wine, for example, and took part in many Italian customs and traditions. I want to find out what are the everyday activities that our students participate in.”
