Night time has long been seen as a problem for cities, a time of danger and disorder, but they are now rethinking the meaning of the urban night, according to a visiting lecturer who will speak here Friday.
Cities are moving more and more to tame and reclaim the night, to fill it full of culture and commerce, says Will Straw, director of the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada and professor of art history and communication studies at McGill University.
Dr. Straw will deliver a lecture on Culture and the Urban Night, which is being presented by the University of Windsor’s IN/TERMINUS Centre for Media, Art, and Urban Ecologies.
The event will be held at Rino's Kitchen, 131 Elliott Street West, on Friday, October 14, at 4:30 p.m.
