How do I apply for Canterbury College Student Residence ?
You can apply to Canterbury College Student Residence by just submitting our form online and one of our staff will contact you with further information and procedures. If you are in Windsor, you can drop by our office located just across the Faculty of Law Building and Leddy Library at the University of Windsor.
When can I apply for Canterbury's Student Residence ?
Applications are accepted throughout the year for our Apartment Building and Houses. However Returning Students are giving first priority for room selection. Generally the apartment buildings, Canterbury Commons, Geoffrey Fisher Hall and Parker House Suites have a waiting list. Once your application is received you will placed on the waiting list.
How do I reserve my Residence room ?
You can confirm your room by paying a non-refundable deposit of $ 400 which is later on deducted from your Residence Fees.
Are any Scholarships available ?
Yes, Canterbury College offers first year entrance scholarships to those students living at Canterbury College for the first time. Other Scholarships are available to all Canterbury College residents. More details are available on our website.
GENERAL QUESTIONS:
How many Students live on Canterbury Campus?
Canterbury accomodates approximately 175 students in our apartment building and houses.
Can I move in early ?
Students moving into the Houses starting the Labor Day Weekend but they can move in earlier if rooms are available but there would be an additional cost, please inquire.
Keys can be picked up at the Administration Office. After office hours key arrangements can be made by contacting the office.
Can I bring my car ?
Canterbury College provides on-premises Parking for our Residents at the cost of $35.00 per month. Parking Permits can be obtained from the Administrative Office. Although the Campus is less than a minute walk from Canterbury premises, its is not necessary to have a car but it may be useful for other activities like groceries and socializing.
ABOUT MY HOUSE
Furnishing:
Every bedroom in our townhouses and residence homes is furnished with a single bed, pod bedrooms have a double bed, dresser, desk, lamp, chair and bookshelf. Common areas of the house are also furnished. Students are not allowed to bring extra furniture into the Houses. Bed Linens and pillows are only provided for our Exchange students, for these residents there is a mandatory $50.00 fee for basic Bed Linens which includes 2 sheets, 1 pillow, 1 pillow case and 1 blanket. These linens are the property of Canterbury College and must not be removed. All other residents must supply their own bed linens and pillows.
For your protection, a careful inventory of our furnishing and linens will be made at the time of your arrival (generally by the Head of the House) and before you depart. This way you cannot be charged for missing items that never existed.
Damage Deposit:
A Damage Deposit of $100 is collected from all Canterbury College Residents. When a student leaves the College, if there is no damage or items missing from their room or House, the deposit will be refunded to the resident.
Laundry and Vacuum Cleaners:
Every House has a brand new washer and dryer. These are operated with a loadable laundry card which can be obtained at the Administration Office. Cards can be loaded at the Administration Office using a Credit or Debit card during regular Office Hours. Cards must be returned before leaving CanterburyCollege, any unused portion of the laundry card is not refundable. For those living our our pods there is a flat rate of $10 per month for unlimited laundry. The College supplies each House with a ironing board and cover, mop, pail and a vacuum cleaner. Students are responsible for the cleanliness of their own room and shall maintain their rooms in a sanitary and acceptable manner.
Light Bulbs, Toilet Paper and Garbage Bags:
Replacement bulbs, toilet paper and garbage bags will be provided for those in our resident homes/townhouese and dispersed through the Head of House. Overhead lights and bulbs which are difficult to reach will be changed by the maintenance staff.
Smoking:
In Compliance with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act effective May 31, 2006 smoking of any kind including vaping, cannibus and e-cigarttes are strictly prohibited anywhere on the property owned by Canterbury College including inside and outside of the Residences. Under the Act failure to comply can result in fines of $ 10,000. Violating the Smoking Policy wll be treated as a Major Incident and will lead to an explusion.
Telephones:
Each bedroom has a phone jack and it is the resident's option to activate this service directly through Bell Canada. Cords and wires between rooms must not be used as this becomes a hazard to safety and/or fire escape. This is by order of the Fire Safety Officer.
Cable TV:
The College does not provide televisions or DVD players or Cable connection for television.
Internet Access:
There is free wireless internet in all houses, townhouses, pods and apartments.
Student agree to comply with the policies of the computer policies of the University of Windsor.
If you require private - dedicated internet connection, you may wish to contact one of the local cable companies, Cogeco is recommended.
Housekeeping and Maintenance:
Our housekeepers clean the common areas of your house/townhouse/pod. Housekeepers will not clean your dishes or move your personal items from the bathrooms in order to clean properly. It is the expectation that students maintain their individual rooms in a fashion that reflects the standards of a responsible mature individual. Apartment residents are advised to inform the office as soon as possible if there are problems with appliances, plumbing, heating, water or electricity.
