The Excellence in Mentoring Award is given to a faculty member who demonstrates excellence in mentoring; has been outstanding in supporting, encouraging, and promoting your education, professional and personal development and your career.
Eligibility:
- The nominee must be a member of the teaching faculty at the University of Windsor; with a minimum of five consecutive years of teaching.
- The nominee is a mentor to alumni but not their current professor.
- The faculty nominee must have mentored one or more former students (alumni).
- The nominator must have been mentored by the nominee.
- The nominee can be retired faculty from the University of Windsor.
Nomination Procedure:
- Nominations are accepted throughout the year.
- Completed nomination forms must be received by July 1. Nominations received after this date will be considered for three years.
- Candidates must be nominated by a former student of the University of Windsor but not their current professor.
- Supporting documents must be provided by two other former students with whom the candidate is mentoring.
- The Alumni Relations Office will prepare a list of candidates to be reviewed by the Faculty Award committee.
- Excellence in Mentoring Award will be presented at the Annual General Meeting & Awards Presentation, held in November each year.
The Nomination Package will consist of the following:
- A completed nomination form.
- The nominee’s eCV/Resume.
- Two letters of support.
- Endorsement from the nominee's Dean or Director.
Selection Process; the nominee will:
- Encourage students to develop individual talents and strengths by acting as an advisor and guide in research.
- Facilitate students in acquiring the skills and resources needed to succeed as scholars and professionals.
- Provide support in administrative and professional matters, such as publishing, grant writing, presentations of research findings, and job placement.
- Demonstrate concern and support of the personal development of students.
- Be a sponsor for student in the academic/professional community.
- Be a role model.
- Have long-term commitment to mentoring (relationship following graduation).
