Scholarships

There are a number of competitive scholarship opportunities available for physics majors.

Other scholarships opportunities can researched from the Financial Aid Office.

Application for the Dr. Lucjan Krause Undergraduate Scholarship in Physics

The Dr. Lucjan Krause Undergraduate Scholarship in Physics will award $1000 to a student enrolled in Physics, Medical Physics, Physics and High Technology, or Chemistry & Physics.  Professor Lucjan Krause headed the Department of Physics through the formative decades of the 1960’s and ‘70s.  Dr. Krause came here in 1958 from Memorial University of New Foundland and became the second Head of the Department in 1959.  Under his guidance, the Department of Physics quickly developed a reputation as being one of the best Physics Departments in all of Canada.

This scholarship has been established by Professor Krause’s family in his name to recognize deserving undergraduate students in any Physics program who through their academic and scientific endeavors bring recognition and honour to the University of Windsor’s Department of Physics.

Application for the Baylis Physics Research Internship

The Baylis Physics Research Internship will award $1000 to a student enrolled in Physics, Medical Physics, Physics and High Technology, or Chemistry & Physics who will work on a research project with a faculty member.  Students already participating in the Outstanding Scholars program should not apply for this Internship.

Students should apply at the end of first year of study and submit a one page application describing why the student is deserving of this internship, along with a letter of recommendation from a faculty member and a one page proposal (written by the student) detailing the suggested research project.  If selected, the student will begin this research project in the beginning of the second year of study (Summer or Fall).  Each year, the student must satisy a minimum of ten hours on a research project and maintain a good standing for renewal.  If a student reapplying for the award in year 2 or year 3 does not satisfy these requirements, the internship is to be re-opened to a new second year student through the above mentioned competition.

This scholarship has been established by Professor William Baylis and his wife, Mrs. Bobbye Baylis to recognize deserving first year undergraduate students in any Physics program who demonstrate exceptional potential.

Application for the Tom & Mylo Drake Physics Research Prize

The Tom & Mylo Drake Physics Research Prize will award $1200 to a student in Physics of good academic standing who exhibits the best research achievements, based on such considerations as referee reports for published work, prizes or other forms of recognition for conference presentations, and a letter of nomination by the research supervisor indicating the significance of the work, and the portion done by the student.

The nomination package will include a three page summary of the research prepared by the student.  This award will be adjudicated by a committee from the Department of Physics to include the Head of Physics.  This award is intended as a graduate award but exceptional undergraduate students involved in research are encouraged to apply.
