Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

At the Production & Operations Management (POM) Research Lab, we are keen on creating equitable and inclusive research and learning environments where diversity is celebrated and differences are embraced. We strive to benefit from a diverse cadre of highly qualified personnel where all equity-deserving groups are included and well-represented. We are proud that we have been matching and exceeding the target percentage of women in engineering in the Engineers Canada 30 by 30 initiative. Researchers at the POM Research Lab are given access to training on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Resources, including eBooks and workshops, related to EDI are available below.

Training

POM Research Lab members have completed the Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA+) training course that is offered by Women and Gender Equality Canada.

Dr. Naved Bakali - Islamophobia in Canada and Beyond

Dr. Naved Bakali, from the faculty of education, will be discussing Islamophobia in Canada and around the world through his research findings and published book on Monday, October 31st at 5:00 PM in the CAW Alumni Auditorium. The description of this event is as follows:

"The ‘War on Terror’ ushered in a new era of anti-Muslim bias and racism. Anti-Muslim racism, or Islamophobia, is influenced by local economies, power structures, and histories. However, the War on Terror, a conflict undefined by time and place, with a homogenized Muslim ‘Other’ framed as a perpetual enemy, has contributed towards a global Islamophobic narrative. This lecture and discussion with author and co-editor Dr. Naved Bakali (Faculty of Education) explores the Islamophobic landscape in Canada and across the global North and South revealing how localized histories, conflicts, and geopolitical realities have textured the ways it manifests, as well as highlighting activism and resistance confronting it. The event will take place on October 31 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm in the CAW Alumni Auditorium. All are welcome, and refreshments will be served. This lecture is hosted by the Muslim Students Association in collaboration with the Office of the Vice-President, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, and the Muslim Chaplaincy, as part of Islamic Heritage Month."
