Are you a student who wants to explore different career paths and make valuable connections in your dream industry? Look no further than the Job Shadow Program!

The Job Shadow Program is specifically designed to give students a unique opportunity to observe professionals in their desired career field. By spending time with a mentor, students gain an insider's perspective of what it's like to work in that industry, helping them to make informed decisions about their future.

Key Dates

The Job Shadow Program runs twice a year, with applications being accepted in September and January for shadowing opportunities over both Fall and Winter Reading Week.

How does the program work?

  1. Apply to the program: Review the list of Job Shadow hosts, select up to two you would like to meet, and complete the online application.
  2. Get matched: Our team reviews applications and matches students based on the quality of the application, areas of interest, and availability (we do not guarantee all students will be matched with a host).
  3. Attend orientation: Learn how to research the labour market, conduct an informational interview, and the expectations of the job shadow experience in an orientation session.
  4. Shadow your host: Meet with your host either in-person or online to complete an informational interview and participate in other learning activities.
  5. Attend a reflection session: Once your job shadow experience is complete, you will attend a reflection session to share details about your experience.

University of Windsor students from all faculities are eligible to apply.

What to expect

Students participate in an informational interview and additional activities during the job shadow experience, such as meeting with a professional to learn about real-life projects related to their field, attending an in-person tour of the organization, or participating in a meeting or mock interview. While shadowing an industry professional, students are not meant to do any work, but rather ask questions, learn, and observe the tasks and skills related to the job.
