Academic Terms:
First Semester
- Called "Fall Semester"
- Runs from the start of September to December (exams finish just before Christmas)
- The Canadian Thanksgiving Holiday will happen on the second Monday in October (the date of this holiday in the USA is different)
- Thanksgiving is also the start of the Fall break week for all students (except for students taking classes in the Faculty of Law)
Second Semester
- Called "Winter Semester"
- Runs from the start of January to April (exams typically finish 1 week before the end of the month)
- In Europe (and other places) this is often called "Spring Semester"
- The 3rd Monday in February is the Family Day holiday and this is typically the start of a break week for all students
- We do not have a big break at Easter - the only day we get off is the Friday before Easter
2024-2025 Academic year
Fall Semester 2024 (Sept. to Dec.)
- Sept. 1 or 2 - is the ideal time to arrive in Windsor (during business hours)
- ** you should not plan to arrive on campus BEFORE these dates
- Sept. 2 - the University is CLOSED for the Labour Day holiday
- Sept. 5 - Classes begin *
- Oct 12-20 - Break Week (also called Reading or Study Week)
(in the Fall this does not include the Faculty of Law) - Dec 4 - Last day of classes *
- Dec 7-18 - Exams begin *
- Dec 19 - Alternate exam day
- Dec 19 - last possible day that a 1 semester students can be in Residence
- Dec. 23 to Jan. 1 - University offices closed
* Dates might be slightly different for the Faculty of LAW and NURSING
Winter Semester 2025 (Jan. to April)
- Jan. 2 - University Offices reopen
- Jan. 4-5 - the ideal time to arrive in Windsor
** you should not arrive on campus before this date - Jan. 6 - Classes begin *
- Feb 15-23 - Break week (also called Reading or Study Week)
- Apr 4 - Last day of classes *
- Apr 7-17 - Exams examinations begin *
- Apr 18 - University CLOSED for Good Friday
- Apr 21 - Alternate exam day
* Dates might be slightly different for the Faculty of LAW and NURSING
