School of Social Work Scholarships and Awards

An annual award for a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident (includes those with Protected Persons status) registered full-time in Year 3 of the Bachelor of Social Work program. Award assigned on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. Established in 1988 in memory of Prof. Valentin J. Cruz, a distinguished faculty member in the faculty of Social Work (1971-1987). Apply online.

This bursary was established in memory of Dr. Erickson who was the Director of the School of Social Work at the University of Windsor from 1985-1989.

 

Awarded annually to a student enrolled full-time in Year 3 of the Social Work program, on the basis of academic standing and financial need. Established in 1983 in memory of Christine Hernandez, B.S.W., in recognition of her dedication to the field of Social Work. Apply online.

Interest from this fund provides several awards annually on the basis of scholastic standing (minimum cumulative average of 75%) and financial need, to full-time students in year three or four of the Social Work program. Students must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents (includes those with Protected Persons status), residing in Ontario. Established in 1997 by Professor and Mrs. Stewart Moore. Professor Moore taught in the School of Social Work and received the OCUFA teaching award in 1992. Apply online.

Awarded to a Year 1 student registered full-time or part-time in the School of Social Work, who is registered with the Student Accessibility Services Office. The eligible candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident (includes those with Protected Persons status) who meets Ontario residency requirements and has proven financial need. Interest from this trust will support one award for a full-time, undergraduate Social Work student in Year 3 or 4. Based on academic standing (minimum cumulative average of 83% required) and financial need. Candidates must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents (includes those with Protected Persons status) who meet OSAP Ontario residency requirements. Apply online.

Interest from this trust will support an award for an undergraduate Social Work or Pre-Social Work student in second year or beyond with preference given to a student who has been actively involved in the Social Work Student Association. Based on academic merit (minimum 75% cumulative average required) and financial need. Candidates must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents (includes those with Protected Persons status) in Ontario who meet Ontario Student Assistance Program Ontario residency requirements. Awarded annually to a 3rd or 4th year student registered full time in Psychology or Social Work. A minimum cumulative average of 78% and demonstrated financial need is required. The recipient must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident (includes those with Protected Persons status), meeting OSAP Ontario residency requirements. Established in memory of Gordon Baillargeon who graduated with a major in Psychology and who later returned as a part time student taking courses in Social Work. Apply online.

One award granted annually to a full-time undergraduate Social Work student. Based on academic standing (minimum cumulative average of 70% required) and financial need. The bursary may be renewable in subsequent years provided the recipient continues to meet the eligibility criteria. Previous recipients must reapply for consideration. Candidates must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Indigenous ancestry (status, non-status, Metis, Bill C31, Innu and Inuit). The bursary was established through a generous gift from the Estate of Marie M. (Chauvin) Tizzard. Mrs. Tizzard was a UWindsor Alumna and Social Worker who wanted to help Canadian Aboriginal students with financial need to pursue a university degree in Social Work. Apply online.

Interest from this trust will support an annual award for a full-time, Year 3 undergraduate Social Work student in even numbered years, and to a full-time, graduate Social Work student in odd numbered years. Candidates must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents (includes those with Protected Persons status) who meet OSAP Ontario residency requirements and have proven financial need. Candidates must show evidence of community involvement reflecting a commitment to social justice and involvement within the School of Social Work in some capacity (student government, serving on a school committee, peer mentoring, etc.). Interest from this trust will support an annual award for a full-time, Year 3 undergraduate Social Work student in odd numbered years, and to a full-time, graduate Social Work student in even numbered years. This award was established in memory of Jenna Leigh Middlebrook who, as an infant, died of a congenital heart defect. Interest from this trust will support an annual award to a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate or graduate Social Work student. Candidates must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents (includes those with Protected Persons status) in Ontario who meet OSAP Ontario residency requirements and have proven financial need. Candidates must show evidence of a commitment to working with children, preferably in the area of children's health. One award will be given annually to a student completing their third year, for continuation into their fourth year, of the Social Work program. A minimum cumulative average of 72% is required. Students must apply with a short statement outlining their volunteer service and involvement in social justice issues. Preference may be given to a student who has demonstrated financial need. This scholarship has been established in memory of Chris Vickers, a dedicated worker in the field of social service. He was a mentor to many helping professionals and worked with a variety of individuals, organizations and committees in Windsor and Essex County. He was deeply involved in the eradication of homelessness in our city and fought tirelessly to end the stigma and provide an equal quality of life to those struggling with homelessness. One award granted annually to a full-time undergraduate student in Year 4 of the Social Work program. Social workers in Community Health and Mental Health fields of practice play a pivotal role in the provision of care and education. This scholarship is designed to help support students who have identified community-based practice in health or mental health as their area of interest and career commitment. Interested candidates must provide a short statement outlining their experience and/or interest in pursuing a career in Community and/or Mental Health fields.
