Biography

KEVIN GOREY, an epidemiologist and social worker, has primarily studied the effects of key social resources such as health care and education on the health of Canadian and American populations. His work won a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) career investigator award as well as an Ontario Premier’s research excellence award. He has worked with practitioners, social and biomedical scientists as well as with grassroots and legislative knowledge users to advance understandings of the social forces that shape the health of Canadians and Americans.

Kevin has two goals for the “second half” of his scholarly life. First, moving from primary to synthetic comparisons of additionally informing high-income nations he hopes to create “hardcover” resources for the next generation of researchers, decision makers and publics. These will be two research syntheses: “The skewed curve: Social solutions to America's social problems” and “Health care of people with low incomes in high-income countries: Best policies from around the world.” Second, he hopes to responsibly pass the scholarly baton off to the next generation of students, graduate and undergraduate, and junior investigators, academy and community-based.
