Biography
THECLA DAMIANAKIS is a Professor at the School of Social Work. Dr. Damianakis’ primary research interests are in clinical and interdisciplinary health research. Over the past 15 years, she has been involved in multiple research initiatives: to develop and evaluate interventions which support caregivers of people with Alzheimer's, Parkinson’s, Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury and Bereavement; to examine psychosocial resources in recovery, resiliency (spirituality/religion, creativity and the arts, community networks) and health outcomes; and to examine the quality of care by way of institutional policies/procedures and professional practices (communication-interpersonal models). She was previously an instructor at the University of Toronto, has supervised a number of students on varied research projects, and continues to provide consultation to professionals and agencies. Her professional experience has included counselling with individuals, families and groups; as well as community organizing to address health and social disparities; conducting cross-cultural and anti-oppression training; program development/evaluation with immigrants and refugees, women, and youth.
