The Science Living Learning Community (SLLC) engages and supports our first-year science students living in residence. The SLLC is equipped with a Resident Assistant (RA) and Science Peer Mentors who are upper-year science students that guide and support you through your academic journey. Students living in the SLLC have the opportunity to participate in various science-focused workshops and information sessions, engage with their professors, strengthen their interpersonal and collaborative skills, and come together as a community in residence to ease the transition into university.
Here are some Science Living Learning Community (SLLC) Events.
Planting Ceremony – Held in September, the Planting Ceremony is an opportunity for students in the SLLC to get to know one another and our team. Students each paint and decorate their own potted plant and then are challenged to take care of their plant for the entire academic year. A contest in May provides prizes to the healthiest plant!
Prof in the House – Each semester, professors are invited to the SLLC and present their research to the students. Professors also discuss opportunities for undergraduate research and discovery in science.
Social Events – Social events are organized for the SLLC students each semester. From movie night, to bowling, to late night pizza and ice cream parties there are lots of opportunities to unwind, connect and have some fun!
