March Sustainability Month 2025 Event Calendar

Welcome to 2nd Annual Sustainability Month at the University of Windsor! Throughout the month of March, we're excited to bring our campus community together to celebrate and promote sustainability. Join us in a variety of workshops, guest lectures, volunteer opportunities, and sustainability initiatives aimed at fostering environmental consciousness and social responsibility. Check out our list of events and mark your calendars to get involved. Together, let's make a positive impact on our campus and beyond as we address the UN Sustainable Development Goals and work towards a more sustainable future.

Description: 

Open Education Week is an annual celebration of open education globally, and an opportunity to share open educational practice and resources. It is a space to learn about, and be inspired by, the amazing work done by the open education community around the world that is increasing access and equity in education.

This year the Office of Open Learning is hosting a conference throughout the Open Education Week and the entire campus is invited to join us for a week of free events. Events will be added regularly, so check out the list below and join the fun.

Description: On your mark, get set, go! Get outside and participate in an outdoor wellness scavenger hunt around campus to appreciate nature, engage in some mindful grounding tools, and inspire more sustainable living. The scavenger hunt will remain open from March 3, 2025 – March 31, 2025 and can be completed at any time. Submit your photos through the EcoQuest Scavenger Hunt link to be entered for a chance to win one of two Starbucks gift cards ($10 value).

Description: Engage with the campus departments, student groups and societies along with community partners to learn how to get involved with upcoming events and initiatives, and discover more about campus sustainability.

Groups include: Student Health, Counselling &Wellness Services, Jull Environmental Club, OptiGrow, Net Impact Club, UWin Ornithology Club, Campus Community Garden, Friendlier, City of Windsor, YQGgreen, Pelee Island Bird Observatory (PIBO), Detroit River Clean Up, Activate Transit Windsor Essex, UN RCE, and the Office of Sustainability.

Description: Interested to learn more about the UWindsor Green Labs program? How can you reduce waste and energy consumption in your lab? Share resources and network with other labs on sustainable best practices and procurement strategies to make your lab more sustainable and efficient. Join us in this workshop to learn what you can do.

Description: Celebration of Nations will be celebrating with the University of Windsor community to highlight and enrich cultural diversity within the University campus and the Windsor-Essex community. We will be showcasing talent, taste, and education to promote awareness of cultural differences and to learn about other cultures while encouraging everyone to celebrate their own heritage.

Description: Join Student Health, Counselling, and Wellness Services and the Office of Housing and Residence Life for a film screening of Wall-E as a part of Sustainability Month! Come take a break from your classes, relax with a fun movie themed around sustainability, and meet other student participants! Popcorn and crafts will also be provided.

Description: Join us for an engaging, hands-on workshop in celebration of Sustainability Month, where you'll learn the art of growing garden plants from seeds! All necessary supplies—including seeds, soil, pots, and gloves—will be provided. Your plants will be nurtured to contribute to the Campus Community Garden. Simply bring your curiosity, enthusiasm, and ready-to-work hands!

Description: UWill Discover Sustainable Futures is a year-long peer-reviewed project where students share their scholarship, research, and creative activities in academic and public settings. During the 2025 conference, students will conduct oral presentations, host poster sessions, and compete in a policy brief competition.

Description: Want to learn more about how to start your own seeds for your garden? Looking to relax during a busy time of year? Come join the Campus Community Garden & Student Health, Counselling, and Wellness Services at our sunflower planting event! We will teach you how to plant your sunflower seeds, explain the process of caring for seedlings, and will have mental health and wellness resources available for participants. All supplies will be provided by the event organizers, no gardening experience necessary!

Description: In collaboration with Environmental Law Society, UWin Ornithology Club, Student Health, Counselling and Wellness Services, the Office of Sustainability, and Lancer Recreation join us on a relaxing guided walk. Explore the campus’ natural landscape as we visit the river while learning about mindfulness and eco-friendly practices. This guided walk will highlight local wildlife and sustainable campus features, offering insights on how to reduce environmental impact and live more sustainably. Practicing ‘Leave no trace behind’ principles.

Description: Join Student Health, Counselling, and Wellness Services & Leddy Library at our free book swap event for Sustainability Month! Bring your own used books that you want to trade, mingle with other participants, and hopefully walk home with a new-to-you book!

Date: March 31st

Time: 11-1pm

Description:In celebration of International Day of Zero Waste, Student Health, Counselling, and Wellness Services in collaboration with the Sustainability Office present the 2nd annual Climate Café. Encouraging the use of reusable items and sustainable living practices to reduce waste, participants can paint-a-tote, featuring their own creative ideas for decorating. Using the ‘It Matters that You’re Here’ suicide prevention tote bags, this event also aims to share hope and raise awareness of mental health resources available to students. All supplies will be provided; no art skills or experience required!

Registration: Not required, but will help us estimate the supplies needed
