Windsor Law is pleased to announce four new faculty hires. Jeffery Hewitt, Assistant Professor, specializes in comparative law in relation to Indigenous peoples; Valarie Waboose, Assistant Professor, specializes in Indigenous legal traditions and the legacy of residential schools; Kristen Thomasen, Assistant Professor, specializes in law and robotics; and Vasanthi Venkatesh, Assistant Professor, specializes in law, land and local economies.
Jeffery is General Counsel for Rama First Nation. His research interests include Indigenous legal orders and governance, Constitutional and Administrative law, critical approaches to Business Law, as well as human rights, remedies and the intersection of art and law. He recently earned an LLM from Osgoode and has been teaching there along with practicing. Jeffery will be joining us in September.
Valarie is currently our Ianni Scholar in Residence. She recently completed her PhD at Trent. Valarie has taught Aboriginal law in the past; her areas of specialization include Indigenous legal traditions and residential schools. She will be joining us in September.
Kristen is currently completing her PhD at the University of Ottawa and is our Law and Robotics hire. Her interests include drones, robots and privacy. She has clerked for the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench and for Madam Justice Rosalie Abella at the Supreme Court of Canada. Kristen will be joining us in January.
Vasanthi is currently completing her PhD at the University of California Berkeley. Her research focuses on law and social movements, citizenship and immigration, law and political economy, and critical legal approaches. She holds degrees from the University of Toronto, the Fletcher School at Tufts, and Purdue University. Vasanthi will be joining us in January.
