Professor David Tanovich was quoted in two separate Toronto Star articles yesterday, January 26, on the implications and meaning of the attempted murder verdict in the Forcillo case.
He is quoted as saying he thinks the verdict is sending "a very dangerous message in terms of holding officers accountable in those circumstances...In a confined space, where the person doesn’t drop the weapon immediately, if that situation arises again, officers will continue to potentially act in the way that he did.” He was also quoted as saying it would have been interesting to see the outcome if Superior Court Justice Edward Then had heard the trial as judge alone.
