Windsor Law students triumph at Canadian Client Consultation Moot!
Windsor Law brings home the 2015 Canadian Client Consultation moot competition trophy for the first time in the competition’s history.
This past weekend, Chres Lee (JD/MSW) and Andrea Fammartino (JD) of Windsor Law won this year’s competition held in Windsor. During this two-day competition, the pair moved through the preliminary and semi-final rounds beating out other teams from schools across Canada. In the final round, the pair took on two Osgoode teams and took the top prize.
Windsor’s other team, comprised of David Sazant (JD) and Shaun Bernstein (JD), also came out with a very strong performance, moving on to the semi-final rounds.
Huge congratulations to both teams and to their dedicated coaches Sharon Murphy and Ashley Lavigne, and competition supporters Jennifer Suzor, Michael Murphy and Gloria Shu.
Chres and Andrea move on to the international competition in Lincoln, Nebraska this April representing Canada.
The Brown-Mosten International Client Consultation Competition is an annual competition for the winners of national competitions across the world. Last year, 21 teams competed in this international competition held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Competing countries included: Australia, Canada, Cambodia, England and Wales, Finland, Georgia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Irish Republic, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Puerto Rico, Russia, Scotland, Switzerland, Turkey and United States.

About the Client Consultation Moot:
The Competition simulates a law office consultation in which two law students, acting as lawyers, are presented with a client matter. Each scenario is different and the students conduct an interview to elicit the relevant information from the client, explain the relevant laws, present the client with their options, and assist the client to select their preferred resolution. The students are evaluated against specific criteria that emphasize the use of listening, questioning, planning, and analytical skills in a lawyer/client interview.
