Founded only last year, The University of Windsor Debate Union won its first Debate Championship. For the first time, three Windsor Law students participated in the Royal City Novice Cup debate tournament in Guelph (January 10-11, 2015).
Myles Anevich (2L Single) and Mark Daley (1L Single) went undefeated in the tournament – winning seven straight debates. Calvin Rosemond (2L Dual) was selected as Deputy Chief adjudicator; he served in the core of the especially talented and effective adjudication team.
After 5 rounds of Canadian Parliamentary debate, the team was ranked atop the competition going into the elimination rounds. The team continued their winning streak into the grand final where they very cleverly opposed a motion on government education incentives. After a compelling, impassioned and convincing final against gracious hosts, Guelph, the team from Windsor was crowned champions.
Myles was recognized as Top Speaker, meaning all the top awards went back to Windsor. This was Mark's first ever debate tournament, after joining the Union only a semester before. The club is thrilled to see such phenomenal success from the growing club!
