Updated: Professor David Tanovich shared his perspective on the Jian Ghomeshi situation this week in both the Toronto Star and Maclean's magazine. His editorial piece in The Star focuses on whether or not lawyers pursuing the Ghomeshi lawsuit are acting ethically or whether lawyers are, in fact, complicit in the silencing of sexual assault complaints. "While it is true that lawyers owe a duty of loyalty to their client, lawyers also owe a duty to the profession and the public and to ensure that their conduct does not bring the administration of justice into disrepute," wrote Tanovich. He is quoted in Maclean's at length regarding the prevalence of stereotypes about sexual assault and how those stereotypes are reflected in the courts.
Update 11/9/14: Professor Tanovich was again quoted in a follow-up Toronto Star Article, "Four ways the courts could better handle sexual assault cases."
