In a Toronto Star article, Professor Richard Moon commented on a York Region Paramedic Services investigation that is underway after several controversial comments were posted to social media from what appears to be a Twitter account of an employee.
In one instance, the account replies to a CP24 story about a Black man who was shot to death in North York. In reply to another tweet about racism in the education system in Canada, the account once again criticizes the story.
Professor Moon says the implication of the employee’s tweet about the shooting is that the victim was a gang member, there is justification to investigate.
He said if a probe shows the employee did, in fact, write the comment, it would be reasonable to question if the employee would provide proper care should she come across a victim of a shooting while on duty.
“It’s legitimate that they be concerned,” says Professor Moon.
