Legal scholar appointed interim associate vice-president, human resources

Sukanya Pillay

UWindsor alumna Sukanya Pillay (BA 1987, LLB 1990) will take up an appointment as interim associate vice-president, human resources effective May 2. While the position begins May 2 to ensure a smooth transition, she will formally take up her new responsibilities on May 16.

This new position will report to the vice-president, equity, diversity, and inclusion, as the first step in a broader restructuring effort intended to embed human resources expertise, leadership, and decision-making within key strategic portfolios to enhance efficiencies, responsiveness, and transparency. This reorganization will see many elements of human resources report to the vice-president, equity, diversity, and inclusion in an organizational structure becoming increasingly common at Canadian universities. Further announcements will follow in the coming months.

Pillay earned her LLM from New York University in 1994 and currently holds the position of acting human rights manager in the Office of Human Rights, Equity, and Accessibility. She is also a Law Foundation of Ontario Scholar and sessional instructor in the Faculty of Law. Previously, she held senior positions at the Canadian Civil Liberties Association as executive director and general counsel.
