Law deans issue statement on fatal attack in London

Dear Members of the Windsor Law community:

The Faculty of Law stands in solidarity with our students, staff and faculty from the Muslim community, who are undoubtedly very distraught over the cowardly and disturbing act of violence that took place in London, Ontario on June 6, 2021.

We condemn these senseless acts of anti-Muslim hate and racism. We mourn the lives lost and the unspeakable grief of the nine-year-old child who survived. Our hearts are with all of the Muslim community during this difficult time. We wholeheartedly agree with the University of Windsor’s statement by Clinton Beckford that: “This tragedy serves as a shocking reminder to all of us that we must do all we can to overcome the poison of racism in our university community and the communities where we live. We need to continue to be vigilant in striving to promote a society where all are embraced, welcomed, and included.”

At Windsor Law, we rededicate ourselves to creating and sustaining healthy relationships amongst each other, wherever we live and work.

Respectfully,

Beverly Jacobs, Acting Dean
Wissam Aoun, Acting Associate Dean (Academic)
Laverne Jacobs, Associate Dean (Research & Graduate Studies)
