3L dual JD students Amanda Iarusso and Kourtney Pratt, along with JD students Allison Krueger, competed in the New York City Bar Moot Competition in Cleveland, Ohio November 18-20. This moot competition is the largest and one of the oldest in the United States.
This year's problem was two-fold: the constitutionality of an "Amazon" tax on online retailers, and a Fourth Amendment issue dealing with the warrantless searches of password-protected electronic files.
The team advanced to the quarter-finals where they defeated one of two Ohio State teams. They only fell in the semi-finals after being defeated by the other Ohio State team, placing third in the competition overall. Dean Chris Waters said, "We are proud of these students and proud of the fact that our dual JD students can take advantage of advocacy competitions on both sides of the border."
