Professor, Mechanical, Automotive and Materials Engineering (MAME) Department
Dr. Waguih ElMaraghy is a Professor and Director of the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Centre (IMSC), at the University of Windsor, a centre of research excellence for product design, manufacturing systems design and operation and intelligent automation. He served as Head of the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) until 2014.
Dr. ElMaraghy is an elected Fellow of: the Canadian Academy for Engineering (FCAE), Engineers Canada (FEC), the International Academy for Production Engineering (FCIRP), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (FASME), the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (FCSME) and the Society for Manufacturing Engineers (FSME).
Dr. ElMaraghy is a registered professional engineer in Ontario and a member and Vice-chair of the Academic Requirements Committee (ARC) of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). He is the Chair, Distance Education Sub-committee, Academic Requirements Committee (ARC).
Dr. ElMaraghy research interests include products design, design for lifecycle consideration and the circular economy, complexity management, manufacturing systems planning and execution, smart manufacturing systems (Industry 4.0) and design engineering. He has been recognized as a founder of ASME’s Design Theory and Methodology (DTM) which aims at establishing a scientific foundation for design engineering.
A mechanical engineer with a bachelor of science in engineering degree from Cairo University, Egypt and a Master and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from McMaster University, Canada, Dr. Waguih ElMaraghy was chief design engineer in industry (Dofasco Inc.) and was key in the design, from the ground up, of the award-winning (in 1975) GO bi-level commuter train.
Dr. ElMaraghy has guided dozens of engineering masters and Ph.D. candidates at the University of Windsor and Western University. He has published more than 300 refereed articles in engineering journals and international conferences, hundreds of industry reports and 3 patents.
