Based on her co-authored commentary published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, Dr. Danielle Slakoff will provide practical recommendations for service providers, technologists, and media personnel to help victims and survivors remain safe during the COVID-19 crisis. For service providers, recommendations include educating informal supporters (such as the victim’s friends and family) about IPV. For technologists, recommendations include partnering with DV organizations to create quick “escape” features on their websites and retooling existing technology to make them safer. We also recommend ways media personnel can use their platform to educate victims, informal supports, and politicians about IPV during disaster times.
