GLIER is located on the Detroit River, housing 19 extensively equipped laboratories, offices for researchers, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students, as well as conference and meeting rooms. GLIER maintains a private boat launch on the Detroit River and has a dedicated research vessel and boats.
GLIER infrastructure, funded by CFI Innovation Fund awards, builds on existing capabilities to make us a leading centre for freshwater aquatic research in North America. This infrastructure promotes collaboration and innovative multidisciplinary research.
GLIER has the distinction of housing one of the few university-based environmental analytical laboratories in Canada; accreditation is by Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA) to ISO/IEC 17025 Standard for Total Phosphorus and Nitrate-Nitrite test methods.
