Surrounded by Conservation lands and other naturalized areas, the busy Port of Monroe, Michigan is part of Michigan's Blue Economy by providing habitat for many kinds of birds and fish. The proximity of the DTE Energy Plant which produces thermal discharge into the port waters attracts fish, which in turn attracts large numbers of bald eagles, and some osprey. Osprey nest platforms have been constructed to encourage the birds, and many migratory birds fly through the area during the seasonal migration.
The biodiversity in and around the port is a shining example of how it doesn't have to be the economy or the environment, but that both can co-exist.
