Currently, if you want to ride your bike in Windsor and Detroit, you have to put your bike on your car and drive it over the border. Given the close relationship between Windsor and Detroit, it seems unthinkable that one cannot ride their bike from one to the other. With the completion of the new Gordie Howe International Bridge in 2025, that is about to change. The bridge will have a multi-use path which will allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross the border and access the cycling paths on both sides of the border.
The path system and trail development on both sides of the border was discussed recently at the State of the Strait Conference held at the University of Windsor this past October, with the theme of Cross Border Trail Tourism.
