In accordance with Senate Bylaw 8, the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Education invites applications for the position of Associate Dean, Teacher Education. The position is a 5-year term with the possibility of renewal, commencing May 1, 2025 or as negotiated.
Applicants must hold a tenured appointment in the Faculty of Education by the time of appointment. We seek a candidate with enduring commitments to excellence and innovation in teaching, service, and research, scholarship and creative activity. Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean, Teacher Education is responsible for the overall administration of teacher education programs, including the Consecutive B.Ed. Program, the Concurrent B.Ed. Programs, and the B.Ed./Diploma in Technological Studies Program. Furthermore, they will be committed to principles and practices of equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion, to anti-racism, anti-oppressive or social justice education, and to fulfillment of the educational Calls to Action as set out by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).
Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Education, the Associate Dean, Teacher Education, will work collegially with the Faculty of Education leadership team and will have responsibilities that include:
- Formulating, promoting, updating a vision for pre-service and undergraduate education in the Faculty of Education;
- Developing, planning and implementing initiatives to improve and support the overall experience of teacher education candidates;
- Overseeing new course and program proposals, including the initial drafting and submission of relevant PDC forms and other documentation required for various levels of Faculty/University approval;
- Contributing to the evaluation of teacher education programs for quality assurance and accreditation purposes;
- Facilitating and monitoring practicum placements through supervision of the Field Experience Office;
- Keeping current and knowledgeable with regards to relevant regulatory requirements and ensuring all teacher education program/curriculum initiatives are in compliance with such requirements;
- Liaising with Student Accessibility Services, the Student Counselling Centre, the Office of Student Experience, the Black Student Support Coordinator, and other relevant student-support offices on campus regarding student matters;
- Approving grades and grade changes, tracking distributions, and consulting with instructors about grading standards/guidelines;
- Consulting on teaching, assessment, and student discipline policies;
- Academic advising, including managing of academic probation, academic offenses, required withdrawals, and numerous student related requests, appeals, etc.;
- Monitoring admissions for teacher education programs and providing strategic enrolment recommendations to the Dean;
- Serving as Chair of the Professional Standards Committee and the Technological Studies Admissions Committee;
- Serving as Vice-Chair of the Teacher Education Committee
- Serving as ex-officio member on relevant Faculty Committees (e.g., Continuing Teacher Education Committee), University Committees (e.g., Undergraduate Recruitment and Retention Committee), professional committees (e.g., Teacher Education Advisory Committee and the Teacher Education Liaison Committee) and all other relevant ad-hoc or standing committees as may be established by the Faculty of Education or the University of Windsor;
- Liaising with regional school board representatives, representing the Faculty of Education at various external meetings, and attending/hosting public events on behalf of the Faculty and the University;
- Regular consultation with the Secretary to the Associate Dean, the Field Experiences Coordinator, and other support staff to ensure coordination of workflow, the sharing of important contextual information, and enhanced policies and practices toward the goal of facilitating positive outcomes for all teacher education candidates in the Faculty;
- Reporting to Faculty Council at all meetings and consulting with the Dean and Faculty of Education Leadership Team on a regular and timely basis; and
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
As per the University of Windsor Policy on Remuneration for Associate Deans (2023), the Associate Dean, Teacher Education, will receive an annual stipend in the amount of $20,000, an annual research allowance of $5,000, and will be entitled to administrative leave credit earned in return for time as Associate Dean (at the rate of 1.6 months per year). Additionally, and consistent with other faculties at the University of Windsor, the Associate Dean, Teacher Education, will have reduced teaching responsibilities. The Associate Dean will be responsible for teaching one full course equivalent, in the teacher education program, per academic year.
