The efficient detection and tracking of moving objects is currently one of the most active research topics within the areas of computer vision and digital video processing. There are two key steps in object tracking: detection of interesting moving objects and tracking of such objects from one frame to another in an image sequence. Motion detection aims at segmenting regions corresponding to moving objects from the rest of an image. Tracking moving objects over time typically involves matching objects in consecutive frames. Some of the applications include: Vehicle Guidance and Navigation, Traffic Monitoring and Control, Collision Detection and Avoidance, etc.
