TITLE: Prolonged Sitting in Office Environments: A Scoping Review of Assessment Methods
Abstract
Prolonged sitting in office environments significantly contributes to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This scoping review explores the methods used to assess prolonged sitting postures in office environments, focusing on their application, strengths, and limitations. 42 studies published between 2000 and 2023 were selected from an initial pool of 167 articles. Self-assessment methods were the most frequent (69.05%), capturing subjective discomfort data, followed by observational tools (38.09%) for postural risk evaluation, and instrument-based approaches (45.24%) such as sensor- and vision-based technologies for precise analysis. The review provides a comprehensive overview of the assessment methods used to evaluate prolonged sitting postures in office environments and offers valuable insights to guide future research.
