Barbecue draws support to campus effort for United Way

“It feels good to support the United Way,” says Mayce Mirza, a second-year chemistry major and one of hundreds of students who stopped by the fundraising barbecue run by volunteer retirees outside the CAW Student Centre on Tuesday.

By purchasing lunch there, patrons supported the charity’s work on behalf of families in the local community.

Youth volunteers up to world-changing challenge

The grade 12 Riverside Secondary student joined other young people from across Windsor in the Campus Community Garden on Tuesday to launch the local Change the World project, part of a province-wide Youth Volunteer Challenge.

Trivia contest a benefit for United Way

A group of students from the Odette School of Business are hoping people will put their otherwise worthless knowledge to good use Friday. They have organized Trivia 4 a Cause as a fundraiser for the United Way/Centraide of Windsor Essex County.

The event will pit teams of four in competition and runs 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 15, in the CAW Student Centre. It offers a $200 grand prize to the winning team.

Campus campaign for United Way tops fundraising target

University of Windsor contributions to the United Way have topped $100,000 for the seventh straight year, campaign volunteers learned Friday at a luncheon celebrating the 2012 fundraising results for the charity.

Staff, faculty and students donated a total of $106,530 through pledges, payroll deduction, and special projects like casual dress days and benefit barbecues.

Lorraine Goddard, director of community impact and development for the local United Way, said the organization is grateful for the support of the campus.
