Campus departments are invited to submit job proposals for the 2014/2015 Work Study Program.
The Cashiers and Student Awards and Financial Aid Offices will close for the day on Tuesday, April 9, for a training session.
Both offices will resume regular hours of operation on Wednesday. Staff members apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The Office of Student Awards and Financial Aid will close the middle of next week to accommodate its relocation to a new space in the Neal Education Building.
Director Marian Doll says that she and her staff are looking forward to the move to the building’s room 1124.
“Our new space is looking great and fresh,” she says. “The architects made really good use of the space and everyone involved has done a great job with the renovations.”
Zina Plantus is most commonly known to her student clients as “the postcard lady,” for her collection on display in the financial aid office, says acting director Marian Doll.
“Zina’s workstation is wallpapered with postcards from vacations that she has taken and that others have taken,” Doll says. “Many times, students have brought in postcards to add to her collection.”
Plantus is retiring at the end of October after a 29-year career with the University of Windsor. Doll says her even temperament suited the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office.
Waiting in line to pick up their financial aid funding may have been a rite of passage for university students, says an official with the UWindsor student awards office, but it will soon be a thing of the past.
Starting this fall semester, the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) will disburse monies through an Electronic Funds Transfer system.
Marian Doll, the University’s acting director of Student Awards and Financial Aid, called it a “major step forward” and said her office is working closely with Information Technology Services to implement the new system.
Marian Doll, a financial aid administrator since May 1990, will assume the position of acting director of the Student Awards and Financial Aid office while a formal search identifies a permanent successor to Aase Houser, who will retire August 1.
In announcing the appointment, Dave Bussière, assistant vice-president, admissions and records, praised Houser’s almost 40 years of service to the university, characterized by her “calm demeanour, diplomacy and tact” when dealing with stressful situations.
Campus employers hoping to submit job proposals for the 2012 work-study program will see changes in the process, but participating students should experience no difference.
The program funds part-time employment for students demonstrating genuine financial need – generally at no cost to campus employers.
Students apply through the “awards search” on the Student Information System or myUWindsor portal; the Student Awards and Financial Aid office determines their eligibility. The student application and approval process will remain unchanged.
