The Winnipeg Blue Bombers selected offensive lineman Drew Desjarlais with the fourth-overall pick in Thursday’s Canadian Football League draft, the highest pick ever for a Lancer player.
Bombers general manager Kyle Walters called the choice a no-brainer.
“We had him ranked very high,” Walters said. “He’s tough, he’s physical. He can grow and develop and we think he’s a really big asset.”
Desjarlais characterized himself as a competitor.
“Every rep is a win or a loss in my eyes,” he said. “To lose one rep seems like a drastic thing for me, so I like to say I’m competitive snap to snap.”
Winnipeg team colours, like the Lancers’, are blue and gold — but Desjarlais hasn’t committed to wearing them yet. A prospect to play in the National Football League, he will participate in rookie camps with the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers.
