A series of events celebrating International Women’s Day will run through the week on the UWindsor campus.

The Womxn’s Centre will host a “Feminist Movie Day” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in its space on the second floor of the CAW Student Centre.

The celebration continues Thursday, March 7, with activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — free food and drinks, a photobooth, vendors, trivia challenge, and raffles, in the student centre’s room 209.

The Health Research Centre for the Study of Violence against Women presents a lecture by Tracey Raney, a professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson University, entitled “After #MeToo: Evaluating Canada’s Strategy to Combat Violence against Women in Politics.” The event is free and open to the public, starting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in room 203, Toldo Health Education Centre.

On Friday, March 8, the Women’s and Gender Studies program presents two films as part of the South Asian Documentary Film Festival — Perween Rehman: The Rebel Optimist and Is it too much to ask, at 11:30 a.m. in room 203, Toldo Health Education Centre. Professor Urvashi Soni-Sinha will lead a discussion to follow. The Ontario Public Interest Research Group – Windsor will showcase gender equality movements from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in the CAW Student Centre Commons. Starting at noon, the five President’s Indigenous Peoples Scholars will offer their perspectives to challenge settler-colonialism on campus in a panel discussion moderated by the Native Student Alliance.

Making It Awkward will host a talk circle on women’s rights Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. on the fourth floor of Windsor Hall, 167 Ferry St. At 7 p.m. it will screen the film Hidden Figures in the Hum café, on the lower level of the student centre. Admission to both events is free, but a free-will donation of $2 will be collected at the latter in support of a local women’s shelter.
