The Office of Open Learning is joining the global open education community in celebrating Open Education Week from March 4 to 8, with a wide range of activities planned.

Open Education Week showcases open educational activities around the world, provincially, and locally at UWindsor.

“We have a variety of activities scheduled for the week, so I’m sure there will be something for everyone,” said Nick Baker, director of the Office of Open Learning.

The week kicks off on Monday, March 4, with a webinar screened live at noon to introduce the new Ontario Open Library.

Tuesday will see a session on Open Scholarship by professor Bonnie Stewart from the Faculty of Education.

A workshop on Wednesday facilitated by Nobuko Fujita will introduce instructors and students to open textbooks in Pressbooks, including how to find, adopt, and adapt them for their own context.

On Thursday, a workshop facilitated by Baker will explore open educational practices and how these can enhance the student experience, retention, and success. The Office of Open Learning will also announce the winners of its recent OER ACE grant call for adoption, creation, and extension of open educational resources and practices.

The week wraps up Friday with a meeting of the Online Instructors Community of Practice from 12 to 1 p.m. in room 302, Leddy Library West. This informal group has been reading the open book An Urgency of Teachers. A call for reviewers for open textbooks from the new Ontario Open Textbook Library will also be officially announced.
