George McMahon knows the history of the University of Windsor. The former history professor, a 1956 graduate of Assumption College, joined the University’s faculty on its founding in 1963.
He will launch the second volume in his history of Assumption University, entitled Rev. E.C. LeBel C.S.B. and the Creation of the University of Windsor, at a free public event Sunday, March 10, at 3 p.m. in the Freed-Orman Centre.
The book covers the period from 1946 to 1964 and deals with the end of the affiliation with the University of Western Ontario in 1952, the establishment of Assumption University of Windsor in 1956 and the formation of the University of Windsor in 1963. The University is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013/14.
McMahon served the University in a number of senior administrative positions and retired in 1996 as assistant vice-president for alumni affairs. Sunday’s book launch is sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the Humanities Research Group; a reception will follow the formal program.
