A free public lecture Friday, February 2, will examine the importance of time in understanding the identity and binding character of a law.

Law professor Bill Conklin will deliver “Two Forms of Legal Time” at 3 p.m. in room 105, Memorial Hall.

He draws on his research about the sense of law in contemporary Nomadic groups and pre-contact Indigenous Peoples in North America to argue that the sense of time as experienced is forgotten by jurists trained to accept a structure of time adopted in Anglo-American legal theory.

Dr. Conklin also teaches in the doctoral argumentation studies program, which is co-sponsoring this event with the Centre for Research in Reasoning, Argumentation, and Rhetoric.
