A free public gathering will mark World Philosophy Day on Thursday, November 16.

Three representatives of the UWindsor Department of Philosophy will present:

• professor Jeff Noonan, on “STEM the Tide: the Revolution will not be Digitized;”
• undergraduate Maggie McAuley, on “Would You Like Fries With That?”
• master’s candidate Emily Dobson, on “Philosophy, Poetry, and (Dis-) Orientation.”

The event is set for 6:30 p.m. at Villain’s Beastro, 256 Pelissier Street. It promises convivial conversation and community, says Dr. Noonan.

In establishing World Philosophy Day in 2005, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization underlined the value of this discipline for the development of human thought, for each culture and for each individual:

“Philosophy provides the conceptual bases of principles and values on which world peace depends: democracy, human rights, justice, and equality.”
