Scientists from the University of Windsor will provide insight into a solar eclipse today — Monday, August 21 — on the riverfront.
Windsor-Essex will be able to view an eclipse covering at least 80 per cent of the sun’s surface. Members of the departments of Physics and Earth & Environmental Sciences will:
- set up solar telescopes near the Windsor Sculpture Park;
- speak to the astronomy of the phenomenon; and
- assist members of the public in constructing pinhole cameras that will help them view the eclipse safely.
Volunteers from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) – Windsor Centre will sell solar-safe eyeglasses.
The event will run from 1 to about 3:47 p.m., with optimal viewing at 2:27 p.m. near the parking lot at the foot of Askin Avenue.
