When the Faculty of Science turned a can drive into a challenge between its departments, the big winner was the Downtown Mission, which received almost 1,100 items donated to its food bank.
The chemistry department brought in a top haul of 235 cans, but honours on a per-capita basis went to the dean’s office, which collected 196 cans with a complement of just eight people.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy the friendly competition,” says Laura McLean, secretary to the dean. “Since we collected almost 1,100 cans, we plan to do it again next year and have a goal of 1,500.”
Her office will receive a sponsored coffee break. See photos of each department’s collection on the science website.
