Experience the delight of live jazz performed by virtuosic School of Creative Arts jazz faculty members Saturday: vocalist Shahida Nurullah, pianist Michael Karloff, bassist Michael Palazzolo, trumpeter Robert Fazecash, guitarists Steve Wood and Miles Finlayson, and percussionist Nicholas Papador.

Admission to the concert, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre, 121 University Ave. West, is $20, with a $10 student rate. Tickets are available for purchase on the Capitol Theatre’s website.

Nurullah is one of the Motor City’s premier and most treasured jazz vocalists. She has performed at the Detroit International Jazz Festival on several occasions.

Karloff is a pianist, composer, arranger, conductor, and musical director. He often plays with both the Detroit and Windsor symphony orchestras, is musical director of St. Clair College’s music performance department, and teaches jazz piano, jazz combo, basic skills, and advanced skills in the UWindsor music program.

Palazzolo is a member of and tours with the Bob James Trio and played on the 2024 album Jazz Hands, nominated for a Grammy as best contemporary instrumental album.

An experienced educator, Fazecash is a member of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, has directed the University Jazz Ensemble since 2005, and initiated the Honour High School Jazz Ensemble in 2017.

Wood has played and recorded with Detroit’s top jazz artists, while Finlayson plays regularly with ensembles on the Toronto scene.

Dr. Papador is an active performer, composer, and founding member of the new music multimedia ensembles Marassa Duo and Noiseborder Ensemble.

“It will be an honour to share the stage with my colleagues,” says Papador. “The show will feature a collection of standards and original arrangements that I know you are going to enjoy.”

The program includes favourites by Blue Mitchell, George Benson, John Coltrane, Anthony Newley, and Percy Faith, as well as original compositions by Karloff and Palazzolo.
