Campus-community radio station CJAM will celebrate its 40th anniversary of FM broadcast during its annual fall pledge drive, Nov. 11 to 18.
The “40K for 40 Years on FM” fundraiser will support daily operations at the station, which lends its signal to amplifying underrepresented musicians, viewpoints, and cultures.
“This station has been at the forefront of being a medium for community members to cut their teeth and learn the basics of audio production: how to edit audio, how to use microphones and our studio, and most importantly, how to make an engaging and spectacular radio program,” says station manager Walter S. Petrichyn.
“Whether it be spoken word content or specific music programming, the thread line is always aiming to reflect our communities in Windsor and Detroit.”
He points to programs such as Magna Carta Pro-Bono Radio and No Scrubs — hosted by students of law and nursing respectively — as examples of partnerships promoting production skills.
“Jammers have moved on from CJAM to work at the CBC, SOCAN, Bell Media, Windsorite.ca, and in many other areas” Petrichyn says. “We are the de-facto space for radio experiential learning in Windsor, and we are beyond proud to broadcast all the time to our sister city, Detroit.”
