Experience a unique and thought-provoking performance with University Players’ production of 365 Days/365 Plays by Suzan Lori Parks, winner of a Pulitzer Prize for her work Topdog/Underdog.
As a personal project, Parks took on the challenge of writing a play every day for a year, sometimes with only a few lines and sometimes with only stage directions. The resulting montage of short plays is a funny and provocative deep dive into the human condition, holding up a mirror to who we are and how we interact with our world. University Players students will perform over 40 of these pieces in their third production of the company’s 64th season.
Students, faculty, and staff are thrilled to be working with director Jane Luk, famous for her acting roles on Kim’s Convenience, The Handmaid’s Tale, and as a voice actor on several animated series including X-Men: the Animated Series. Luk is a four-time nominee for the Canadian Comedy Awards for funniest female improvisor and recipient of a Dora Award and Chalmers Award.
“My love for working in comedy allowed me to bring lightness on some dark subjects and a message of connection between all of us,” Luk says. “Collaboration with these talented actors was a joy. They were so open to playing, creating, and exploring beyond imagination.
“I hope you enjoy this offering of blood, sweat, and tears… and love and laughter — much laughter.”
365 Days/365 Plays opens at Essex Hall Theatre on Friday, Feb. 3, with a 7:30 p.m. performance and runs until Feb. 12. Recommended for ages 14+.
