Teaching is a performance in many ways, says history professor Robert Nelson.
“I was a drama student in high school and I never thought I’d get to act again, and now I get to act,” he says. “It’s draining in the way that drama used to be draining. So you’re tired at the end of a performance, but it’s really fun.”
A recipient of the 2014 Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Contributions to University Teaching, Dr. Nelson was among dozens of honourees at the UWindsor Celebration of Teaching Excellence, Wednesday. Hosted by the Office of the Provost and the Centre for Teaching and Learning, the event pays tribute to the efforts of all educators on campus who inspire, engage, and enrich student learning.
Law professor Donna Marie Eansor won a 3M Teaching Fellowship, a national award she called “invigorating, exhilarating, reflective and empowering.”
She says that while it is personally satisfying, she appreciates the recognition extends to the entire University.
“I think I’m really truly just a representative of the many stellar professors and teachers across this campus,” she says.
