Mike Mackinnon, director of Campus Community Police, will retire Aug. 14 after 10 years of service to the University of Windsor.
Ryan Flannagan, associate vice-president, student experience, said Mackinnon will be remembered for his diligent work to improve all aspects of the University’s security and safety.
“His dedication and professionalism were of the highest quality and Mike knew how to get things done,” Flannagan said. “Our campus is as safe as it has ever been and we have Mike’s leadership to thank for that.”
Leslie Poisson, a patrol sergeant with Campus Police, echoed this assessment.
“In my 33-year career in Campus Community Police, we’ve had nine or 10 directors come and go. Mike by far has been the stand-out,” she said. “His leadership, knowledge, passion and drive for community-based policing has led our department to where we are today. It's been a pleasure to work for Mike the last 10 years.”
Because of the ongoing pandemic measures, the University will not be able to arrange an on-campus event for colleagues to wish Mackinnon well on his retirement, Flannagan said. Instead, community members are encouraged to reach out with an email or an impromptu Teams call to wish him well on this next phase of his life.
